SWIM-A-THON NEWS
February 4 & 5, 2010
The time is upon us for the annual St. James Seals Swim-a-thon. Now what is this you might ask? It is a time for all swimmers to swim as many lengths of the pool as they can in a given amount of time. Your seal can collect pledges from friends, family, co-workers, neighbours, teachers, etc. or you can have your Swim-a-thon cheque cashed for you. Please check under the "FUNDRAISING" category for more details, information, and co-ordinator to contact. Come out, watch your "seal" swim, and count how many laps they finish. It is great deal of fun. We will add up all of the lengths of the pool and see how far we travel in distance. We are aiming to get all the way to Brandon which is 200 kms. LET'S GO SEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!
2010 Olympic Flame
Coach Ian and the senior swimmers were in attendance at the torch run with the Olympic flame at The Forks on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. This was a once in a life time experience for all. They watched the torch arrive in the forks and the flame passed from one torch to another and finally having the flame arrive on stage to the cheering crowd of spectators. This was a chilly -25 (windchill) but exciting experience for our swim team. The swimmers attended wearing as much Seals attire as they could possibly wear. We were a force to be recognized. There were many pictures taken, so stay tuned for these pictures to be posted here.
Great Results at PWI
December 3rd to the 6th 12 Seals competed at Prairie Winter International. This is one of the biggest and best short course meets in Western Canada. Wow did we have a great meet! The team placed a solid 10th overall. This is an 8 team jump over last year where we placed 18th! Leading the way was Michael Solomon who won 3 gold 2 silvers and a bronze breaking the meet record in the 50 backstroke. Michael also qualified for the Canadian Age Group Nationals in the 200 back. Congrats also to Cameron Russell winning 3 bronze medals and to Nick Assuras picking up another bronze. Our boys 12 and under relay swam to a Silver medal almost breaking the provincial record! Overall the club swam to 74% best times and really showed the swim community that the Seals are in the Game! Complete Seals results can be found on our website.
SEALS ROCK IN BRANDON!!!
The Seals put in an amazing showing at the Halloween Invitational swim meet in Brandon October 24-25. The swimmers put in a fantastic effort with almost 90% personal best times, Winson breaking a club record in the 50m breast (sorry Brett), Nick qualifying for ManSask, Michael just barely missing the 50m back club record (which was set in 1980 by Trevor Jackish) by 0.01 seconds , 19 first place finishes, and so many A and AA times that we can't list them all here. This effort on behalf of our swimmers earned us the runner up for points, by a mere 40 points. We are all looking forward to your efforts in Kenora.
Way to go SEALS!!!!!!
